BANGKOK,19th August 2019 (NNT) – Government Spokesperson Naruemon Pinyosinwat is confident that Welfare Cards can bolster and expand the national economy, raise public benefit and stimulate domestic consumption.
She said the Welfare Cards, worth over 109 billion baht, are contributing significantly to increases in domestic consumption in the third, fourth quarters of this year and first quarter next year by 5.2%, 5.4% and 4.6% respectively, compared to forecast GDP growth by 3.2%, 3.6% and 2.8% respectively. The increased domestic consumption has kept the economy from further slump, according to the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council.
The government has also secured in-depth individual data so that the Welfare Cards can be provided appropriately and effectively to meet the demands of registered low-income earners. The handouts via the Welfare Cards have incurred no leaks or corruption. If the Welfare Cards are not used, the money will not be unaccounted for, but remain untapped in the Chararath Fund for the Fundamental Economy.
