BANGKOK (NNT) – The legalization of hemp in Thailand has created new business opportunities for farmers and companies, who have formed a trade association for hemp products in the country. The association has kicked off its new campaign with an exhibition in Bangkok, aiming to promote the hemp plant as Thailand’s new economic plant.
The Thai Industrial Hemp Trade Association (TIHTA) kicked off the Thailand Cann D-Day 2021 event, featuring products in the food and beverage category, as well as health and beauty products. The event also features an exhibition on the health benefits of hemp and sessions for business negotiations.
TIHTA President Pornchai Padmindra said this event marks a crucial step towards the promotion of hemp as Thailand’s new economic plant and the positioning of Thailand as Asia’s hemp production and trade hub.
He said the association is now taking care of hemp production from the first stem, by allowing farmers to gain reasonable profits through pricing regulation. The association also supports the research and development of hemp strands, which will benefit hemp extractors, as well as supporting hemp processing for various industries including textile, chemicals, and construction.
Thailand Cann D-Day 2021 is now taking place at the EmQuartier shopping center in Bangkok until 21 November. The association is planning to hold Thailand International Hemp Forum & Expo in late-2022 to demonstrate Thailand’s capacity and preparedness to become an industrial hemp hub.
