Chinese cyber association calls for review of Intel products sold in China

The Cybersecurity Association of China calls for a security review of Intel products, alleging harm to national security. This could prompt scrutiny from China’s cyberspace regulator, affecting Intel’s market presence.

The Cybersecurity Association of China (CSAC) called for a security review of Intel products sold in China, citing concerns that the U.S. chipmaker has undermined national security. While CSAC is not a government entity, it maintains close relationships with the Chinese state, which may lead to action from the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC).

CSAC suggested initiating a network security review on Intel’s products to protect China’s national interests and safeguard consumer rights. This recommendation mirrors previous actions taken against U.S. companies, like Micron Technology, which faced restrictions after failing a security review.

Intel has yet to respond to these allegations, and the company’s shares fell 2.7% in U.S. premarket trading as tensions rise in the tech sector. The outcome of this situation could significantly impact both Intel and broader U.S.-China relations.
