SET Marks 50 Years of Excellence
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with an insightful seminar entitled “50 Years of the Stock Exchange: Challenges Across Eras.” Hosted at the INVESTORY Learning Museum in the Maruey Library, the event brought together industry leaders, including Kittiratt Na-Ranong, SET’s ninth President, and Suthep Peetakanont from Krungsri Securities. They shared valuable experiences on navigating significant economic challenges.
Navigating Economic Challenges
Key discussions focused on historical recovery efforts, including actions taken after the 1997 Asian financial crisis and revitalization steps post-2003. The effects of the 9/11 attacks, which temporarily closed the SET, were also addressed. The seminar highlighted notable advancements in Thailand’s capital market and emphasized vital achievements, such as the establishment of derivatives markets and enhanced investor education.
Future Directions and Collaboration
Looking ahead, SET plans to implement diverse investment products tailored to meet evolving investor needs while fostering sustainable growth. The importance of collaboration between the capital market and government was underscored, with notable examples such as tsunami relief initiatives demonstrating the power of unity in driving future success.
