Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s Support for Government’s Loan Bill

Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today that his Bhumjaithai party will support the government’s loan bill for the digital wallet scheme, if it does not contravene the Constitution.
As a member of the coalition government, he said that, although the scheme was initiated by the Pheu Thai party, the success of the scheme should be treated as an achievement of the whole government.
The Bhumjaithai party leader said that the party’s MPs will definitely vote for the bill in parliament because, when the bill reaches parliament, it means that it has been approved by the cabinet, the Council of State and the Bank of Thailand.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s Statement on Loan Bill
Speaking from San Francisco, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin told Thai media that the government is waiting for confirmation, from the Council of State, concerning the constitutionality of the loan bill.
Asked whether he had consulted Wissanu Krea-ngam, former deputy prime minister and top legal expert in the Prayut administration, who was recently appointed a member of the Council of State, about the government’s proposed loan bill, the prime minister said he has to be discreet about approaching a member of the council, because he does not want to be seen to be lobbying for the bill.
He also brushed aside the latest criticism of the proposed bill by Move Forward deputy leader Sukanya Tansakul, saying that he does not want to engage in an argument with anybody.
