Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Shows Interest in Southern Thailand Land Bridge Project
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is interested in the huge land bridge project in southern Thailand, from an investment perspective, and in educational development, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said today.
He mentioned that in a conversation with Jin Liqun, AIIB’s chairman, they discussed the government’s plan to build the land bridge and upgrade several airports across the country. Jin expressed enthusiasm for the land bridge project and interest in playing a role. The AIIB could provide support for the project’s feasibility study and in educational development in Thailand, the prime minister added, as well as potential financial support for infrastructure projects in the region.
AIIB’s Role in Thailand’s Economic Development
The Thai government has been actively promoting the land bridge project in hopes of attracting foreign investment, with the goal of transforming Thailand into a new logistics hub in the region. The AIIB, headquartered in Beijing and started operations in 2016, has shown interest in participating in this transformative project, showcasing its role in supporting economic development and infrastructure projects in Asia. With China as its largest shareholder, the AIIB’s involvement in Thailand’s projects could potentially greatly impact the country’s economic growth and development.
