From May 1st, Thai banks will charge 1% DCC fee for cash withdrawals abroad and on Visa or Master credit card transactions made outside Thailand. Customers can use “travel cards” without extra fees.
Thai Banks Implement 1% DCC Fee
Starting from May 1st, Thai commercial banks will begin charging customers a 1% Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fee for cash withdrawals made abroad. This fee will also apply to transactions made with Visa or Master credit cards for purchases of goods or services from international merchants or online stores.
Implications of the DCC Fee
Customers using their credit cards for services such as Netflix subscriptions, shopping on platforms like TikTok, Alibaba, or Amazon, or booking hotels through Agoda will also be subjected to the 1% DCC fee. While the banks justify this charge as standard practice for international transactions, customers have the option of using “travel cards” to avoid any additional fees.
