Thai business leaders in education, food, manufacturing, and agriculture were impressed by East Java’s infrastructure. Lack of direct flights between Bangkok and Surabaya hinders investor interest, but efforts are being made to establish direct flights.
Thai Business Delegation Impressed with East Java
A Thai business delegation, comprising leaders in various industries, found the vibrancy and infrastructural projects in East Java, Indonesia, impressive. However, the lack of direct flights between Bangkok and Surabaya has been noted as a factor moderating investor interest in the province. Despite a potential market of 120 million people and various incentives, Thai investors face long connecting flights, making the journey from Bangkok to Surabaya up to 9 hours.
Efforts Towards Direct Flights and Economic Cooperation
The Acting Provincial Secretary of East Java expressed plans to push for direct flights between Bangkok and Surabaya, highlighting the importance of enhancing economic cooperation between Thailand and Indonesia. Thai delegates expressed interest in investing in Indonesia, with opportunities in education and food sectors being particularly attractive.
