Cabinet Endorses Minimum Wage Increase for 4-Star Hotel Employees
The Cabinet approved the wage committee’s proposal today to raise the minimum wage to 400 baht/day for employees of 4-star hotels in specific areas of 10 tourist provinces, effective April 13.
4-star hotels in Pathumwan and Wattana districts in Bangkok, Ao Nang sub-district in Krabi, Pattaya in Chon Buri, and other designated areas must comply if they have at least 50 employees. The wage committee’s decision, based on the provinces’ significant tourism income, was made after a public hearing involving all stakeholders.
Concerns Raised by Some Hotel Owners
Despite the endorsement, some hotels in the designated areas have expressed concerns about the wage increase, citing that they are not prepared to handle the additional costs associated with the change. The committee maintained that both employers and employees should mutually benefit from the thriving tourism industry in these provinces.
