Truck operators threaten 9% rate hike if diesel prices not capped at 30 baht/litre within 10 days. Complaint lodged with PM due to impact on operations and jobs in logistics sector.
Truck Operators Threaten 9% Transport Charge Increase
Truck operators in Thailand have issued a warning to raise transport charges by 9% if the government does not cap diesel prices at 30 baht/litre within the next ten days. The Land Transport Federation and its affiliates have formally submitted a complaint to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, urging for action as diesel prices have reached 32.94 baht/litre.
Concerns Over Rising Operational Costs
President Apichart Prairungruang expressed the federation’s frustration, stating that many operators are struggling to make payments on their leased trucks due to increased operational costs. He highlighted the risk of job losses in the logistics sector if truck operators are forced to shut down. The federation has proposed changes to the oil pricing structure to support truckers and prevent double taxation, as the Finance Ministry ends diesel subsidies to maintain a price of 30 baht/litre.
