Success of Waste Separation – Change for Good seminar

BANGKOK, 12 July 2019 (NNT) – The Minister of the Interior has asked for cooperation from all sectors to sort garbage, to help reduce the environmental impact, while promoting 42 provinces as examples of 100% waste sorting success.

The Minister of the Interior, Gen Anupong Paojinda has presided over the opening ceremony of the ’ Success of Waste Separation – Change for Good ’seminar, held at the Army Club in Bangkok, with participants including the Ministry of the Interior’s Permanent Secretary Chatchai Promlert, the Department of Local Administration’s Director General Suttipong Juljarern, provincial governors from 42 provinces, and delegates from related agencies.

The Interior Minister said garbage sorting is an importanr practice which needs to be promoted among all sectors, as the lack of waste sorting has an impact on the environment, living quality, and health, while creating extra costs in the retroactive action that is required.

The government has been promoting waste sorting across the country, with 42 provinces awarded for their ability to sort waste 100% effectively. These provinces include Udon Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Rai, Nakhon Sawan, and Pathum Thani.

On this occasion, agencies have received certificates for their support and participation in agreements for research and the certification program of compost trash cans to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The agencies include Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, Chulalongkorn University, the Department of Local Administration Wives Club, and the National Council of Women of Thailand Under Royal Patronage.
