NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 17th August (NNT) – His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua has granted anti-dust masks and safety glasses to officials and volunteers fighting a forest fire.
A total of 432 anti-dust masks and 350 bags containing royally-endowed items were provided for officials and volunteers who were putting out the fire which has continued to burn for over two weeks in Phru Khuan Khreng national forest reserve in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Deputy Provincial Governor Thawornrat Khongkaew and Deputy 41st Army District Commander Col Somchai Ponathong, distributed the royally endowed items to the officials and volunteers.
Some personnel have become sickened with respiratory troubles due to the smoke during firefighting operations. The southern forest fire which has engulfed significant forest areas, is considered the most critical so far this year. Some firefighting personnel have had difficulties breathing, had eye irritations and coughs and fevers, while others have been hospitalized after they choked on the heavy smoke.
