BANGKOK, 23 August 2019 (NNT) – Water management is a challenge which requires data integration by several agencies. The Office of National Water Resources (ONWR) has established an ICT strategy to advance national water management systematically, using digital technologies.
In a consultation on the creation of an ICT strategy by the ONWR, the office joined hands with King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, to implement modern technologies such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, and digital infrastructure development to support the storage and exchange of water resource data on a cloud database. The data system will allow the ONWR to make better analyses, forecasts, and warnings that are more accurate and in a more timely manner.
The ONWR Deputy Secretary General said the ICT strategy is intended to build a digital platform to store and better manage national water resource data, and to create a database to support future operations according to the 20-year water resources master plan, which includes water resource data analysis and presentation, and nationwide data access, helping promote intelligent water management as well as project evaluations.
The office gives high priority to the ICT strategy as a tool to help promote projects in the 20-year water resource master plan, for concrete outcomes and maximum effectiveness.
