BANGKOK(NNT) – The concentration of dust particles in the air in many areas of greater Bangkok and the northern region still exceeds the safe limit.
The Pollution Control Department’s Air4Thai website reported today that levels of particulate matter of 2.5 microns or less (PM2.5) in Bangkok and nearby provinces measured between 34 and 81 micrograms per cubic meters of air on February 20, higher than the day before.
The figures were mostly higher than yesterday’s. Fifty locations registered unhealthy levels, with eight of the areas having PM2.5 levels above 70 micrograms per cubic meter. The areas included Krathum Baen district in Samut Sakhon province; Bang Khae, Bangkok Noi, Lak Si and Khlong San districts in Bangkok and Muang Nakhon Pathom district in Nakhon Pathom province. People in polluted areas should curtail outdoor activities at this time.
In the North, air quality ranged from good to unhealthy. The highest level was reported in Muang Mae Hong Son district of Mae Hong Son province, with the quantity of PM2.5 measuring 78 micrograms per cubic meter.
The Meteorological Department reported that easterly winds are prevailing over greater Bangkok, reducing the fine dust concentration. In the northern region, the concentration of dust particles is expected to reduce due to better weather conditions this afternoon.
