Marine Dept, Hatari to collect garbage in Chao Phraya river

BANGKOK (NNT) The Marine Department in cooperation with Hatari and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has organized an activity to collect garbage in Chao Phraya river for the third time. Mr. Witthaya Yamuang, Director General of the Marine Department, presided over the launch of the project which was attended by Mr Witthaya Phanittrakul, Managing Director of Hatari Electric Company Limited, representatives of Samphanthawong District Office, government officials, members of the media and local people.

The Director General of the Marine Department disclosed that the activity was aimed at raising awareness of the value of rivers and canals to help preserve the water environment.

As part of the activity, the Marine Department hired five patrol vessels, two water hyacinth removal vessels and 30 garbage collection vessels from the Department of Environment, BMA. All waste will be sorted in order to be disposed of properly.

The Office of Water Safety and the Environment, Marine Department, also delivered a lecture on waste pollution, proper waste sorting and correct waste disposal, and treatment of grease in waste water from households with a grease trap. People are invited to take part in future activities.
