UBON RATCHATHANI (NNT) – A Deputy Minister of Agriculture has led an ad hoc committee on integrated water management, to observe the water management operations at Sirindhorn Dam in Ubon Ratchathani.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Capt Thamanat Prompow, chairing the House of Representatives’ ad hoc committee on integrated water management, accompanied committee members and delegates to see water management operations at Sirindhorn Dam in Ubon Ratchathani province.
The dam and its reservoir currently serve areas in the northeastern province, where the average water level in Irrigation Area 8 along the Mun river is recorded at 53 percent less than last year. The situation is even worse in Irrigation Area 7, where the water level is on average now 70 percent less than last year.
Royal Irrigation Office 8 will be proposing 960 Gam Ling water retention area projects in its 20-year plan, covering 1,120 square kilometers of land, using a budget of some 49.1 billion baht. A proposal for the budget allocation has been submitted to the ad hoc committee on integrated water management, as one of the projects to mitigate drought disaster in the northeastern region.
