BANGKOK (NNT) – The Treasury Department has joined forces with the Royal Thai Army to proceed with Phases 2-3 of the Benjakitti Park development in Bangkok, adding more green space in the metropolis, while serving as a learning center for those studying rare plants and royal projects. The renovated park is scheduled to open on 12th August next year.
Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, today presided over the signing ceremony of Benjakitti Park’s Phases 2-3 in Bangkok, a joint project of the Treasury Department of the Ministry of Finance, and the Royal Thai Army.
After the ceremony, Gen Prawit said the renovated park will span over 102 acres of land in Bangkok, with a renovation budget of 652 million baht. The park’s rehabilitation will reflect the royal legacy of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, their royal contributions and royal projects. The park will serve as a forest park located in the heart of the city.
The renovation will proceed in two phases, with the first commencing in November and due to be completed in June next year. The latter phase will commence after the celebration of Her Majesty the Queen Mother’s birthday on 12th August, a celebration which will be held at the park. The Royal Thai Army is to construct a museum, exercise facilities, and a learning center for the study of rare plants in the second phase. These facilities will be equipped with solar panels and Chaipattana aerators to provide clean energy and help reduce carbon emissions. Museums and other facilities are expected to open to the general public in February 2022.
