BANGKOK (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has urged related agencies to accelerate the renovation of Khlong Saen Saep, to improve the canal’s scenery and safety for water transport, with the safety of boat passengers the top priority.
The subcommittee on the management, development and conservation of Khlong Saen Saep, chaired by DPM Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, has assigned the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to create an urgent development plan in which development works are to be performed within this year.
The plan must place the highest priority on the safety of passengers using express boat services along the canal, improve the infrastructure and landscape along the canal and the cleanliness and orderliness of areas by the canal.
The plan will also include the construction of 8 new piers, the procurement of 12 electric passenger boats and the operational management of these boats.
City hall will be working with the Pollution Control Department, the Wastewater Management Authority and other related agencies to enforce the water pollution control law and perform 3 construction projects of wastewater collection systems, a large scale community wastewater management project, a flow capacity increase project for Khlong Saen Saep and a drainage tunnel construction.
Three more projects have been planed to take place over the next 5 years, namely a wastewater collection system construction, serving areas around Khlong Lat Tanot, the construction of a wastewater treatment facility in Min Buri district and the construction of a wastewater management system in Khlong Toei district.
Gen Prawit urged related agencies to ensure all the urgent projects will be completed within the timeframe.
