Kintone continues to support the global trend toward citizen development by offering non-developers a platform to build their own digital work tools

BANGKOK, Dec. 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Kintone, the all-in-one customizable digital workplace platform built for teamwork, has once more been recognized in the latest Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms* (LCAP). This marks the seventh consecutive time Gartner positioned Kintone within its LCAP vendor assessment report, and Kintone was one of only 17 vendors to be included this year.

Gartner defines an LCAP as, "application platforms that are used to rapidly develop and run custom applications by abstracting and minimizing the use of programming languages." The minimum requirements to qualify as an LCAP are to: "Include low-code capabilities to develop a complete application consisting of user interfaces for web and mobile channels, business logic, and data storage; support a model-driven or graphical programming approach with scripting; and act as a runtime platform for applications developed on an LCAP."

This year’s report predicts the acceleration of the global shift toward low-code and no-code as modes of software development. By 2026, the low-code market is expected to reach THB 1578.28 billion in revenue. The LCAP share of that market is expected to expand to THB 638.41 billion, amounting to a compound annual growth rate of over 20%.

Among the key trends driving enterprise adoption, Gartner states, "Democratization and citizen development initiatives are also fueling enterprise adoption of low-code development technologies. These initiatives are not just limited to professional IT developers looking for speedy application delivery; they also apply to the kind of no-code development tools used by citizen developers (business technologists) within business units."

Kintone’s unique differentiation was identified as no-code collaboration, which enables citizen developers to jointly build workflows for continuous business enhancement, and its large partner ecosystem, which offers a wide range of extensions and plug-ins.

"We’re honored to have been recognized for the seventh consecutive time in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms," said Yoshihisa Aono, President and Chief Executive Officer of Kintone. "Since we launched the Kintone platform in 2011, we have consistently enhanced its functionalities and expanded our ecosystem of partners to meet the growing needs of citizen developers.

"The global shortage of IT professionals is exacerbating the need for digital transformation. Kintone’s ease of use allows citizen developers without IT expertise to quickly and effectively deploy business applications and integrate them with other systems. We look forward to pursuing our global expansion and supporting our clients by providing a secure, centralized no-code platform for optimal business collaboration."

Throughout 2023, Kintone has actively continued to improve its platform with new features and functionalities. Kintone currently has over 31,000 customers around the world, ranging from SMBs to multinational enterprises. Its ecosystem of partners, IT professionals, and citizen developers have collectively built and deployed more than two million applications.

Great Potential in Population Genomics

Population genomics has the potential to greatly contribute by facilitating the accurate categorization of individuals based on shared genetic backgrounds. During his speech, Prof. Patrick Tan, Executive Director of PRECISE in Singapore detailed the progress of the National Precision Medicine Programme, a 10-year research roadmap to accelerate biomedical research and improve health outcomes. "In the first phase, we generated the world’s largest multi-ethnic Asian reference database (SG10K Health)," said Prof. Tan. "Phase 2 is currently underway to scale this genomic-phenotypic database to 100,000 Singaporeans (PRECISE-SG100K) to address key questions about Asian health and disease linking genomic, phenotypic, and clinical outcome data."

On the other hand, Prof. Stephen T.S. Lam from Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital examined in his presentation how "omics" can contribute to the health of the population. "In addition to genomics, more recent developments in the other disciplines of biological science, such as proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, have increasingly been incorporated in disease management and health promotion," said Prof. Lam. "Their efforts are helping to characterize and quantify the biological molecules that contribute to the structure and functions of human cells, tissues and organs, both in health and disease."

In understanding diseases in the context of genomic diversity, Prof. Shuhua Xu from China’s Fudan University offered an overview of the recent progresses in human population genetics studies in China based on large-scale whole-genome sequencing. "Identifying and prioritizing disease-associated causal variants is based on an understanding of the distribution of genetic variation within and between populations," Prof. Xu added. "Population genetics and genomics thus play a vital role in dissecting genetic architecture of diseases and complex traits."

Metagenomics Enables Robust Treatment

Metagenomics plays a crucial role in understanding the genetic diversity and functional potential of microbial communities, providing valuable insights into ecosystem dynamics, human health, and biotechnological applications. With a key focus of the summit on metagenomics, scientists from across the globe shared the progress and fruits of their relevant research and clinical applications.

Qilu Pharmaceutical Announces Results from Phase I Clinical Study for Its Novel Bispecific Antibody QLS31905 at ESMO Immuno-Oncology Congress

0

JINAN, China, Dec. 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — During the ESMO Immuno-Oncology Congress 2023 held in Geneva, Switzerland, from December 6th to 8th, Qilu Pharmaceutical presented the latest results of the Phase I clinical trial for QLS31905 in patients with advanced solid tumors through a poster presentation (Poster No. 132P). The leading investigator of the study is Professor Lin Shen from the Peking University Cancer Hospital.

QLS31905, developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical, is a bispecific T cell engager (BiTE) that targets Claudin18.2. The primary objective of this trial was to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and preliminary antitumor activity of QLS31905 in patients with advanced solid tumors.

Study Background and Design

Claudin18.2 is a highly specific cell surface molecule that is often abnormally expressed in primary gastric cancer as well as in other solid tumors such as pancreatic and esophageal cancers1,2. QLS31905 was designed to bind to Claudin18.2 on the surface of tumor cells and CD3 on the surface of T cells, leading to the sustained killing and lysis of tumor cells through the recruitment and activation of T cells near the tumor. This study enrolled patients with advanced solid tumors who had either failed standard treatments or for whom no standard treatment options were applicable or available. The trial consisted of two phases: dose escalation and dose expansion. In the dose-escalation phase, the accelerated titration and i3+3 designs were used. The dose levels of QLS31905 were incrementally increased, starting from 0.5 μg/kg once-weekly (QW), and escalated through 1.5 μg/kg QW, 5 μg/kg QW, 15 μg/kg QW, 45 μg/kg QW, 100 μg/kg QW, 200 μg/kg QW, 350 μg/kg QW, and up to 500 μg/kg biweekly (Q2W). The primary endpoints of this stage were the dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs) and the maximum tolerated dose (MTD), while secondary endpoints included safety, pharmacokinetics (PK), pharmacodynamics (PD) and immunogenicity. The dose-expansion phase focused on the objective response rate (ORR) as its primary endpoint. Secondary endpoints in this stage were the disease control rate (DCR), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).

Study Results

As of July 17, 2023, a total of 52 patients had been enrolled in the clinical trial, including 31 patients with gastric cancer and 12 with pancreatic cancer. During the dose-escalation phase, 22 participants received QLS31905 at 0.5 μg/kg QW to 350 μg/kg QW. The administration of the 500 μg/kg Q2W dose level is currently ongoing. In the dose-expansion phase, 30 patients had been enrolled and received QLS31905 at dose levels of 200 μg/kg QW and 350 μg/kg Q2W.

In terms of safety, no DLTs occurred, and the MTD had not been determined yet. Among all the participants, 21 (40.4%) experienced grade 3 or higher treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs), 10 (19.2%) experienced serious TRAEs, and two (3.8%) experienced TRAEs leading to the discontinuation of the treatment. The most common TRAEs included fever, which was observed in 30 patients (57.7%), nausea in 26 (50.0%), and a decrease in white blood cell counts in 18 (34.6%). Notably, grade 3 or higher cytokine release syndrome was reported in two patients in the 350 μg/kg QW cohort.

Regarding efficacy, out of the 27 participants who were evaluable for efficacy, the ORR was 11.1%, and the DCR reached 63.0%. Three patients achieved partial response (PR) and exhibited moderate to high levels of Claudin18.2 expression, including two patients with pancreatic cancer and one with gallbladder cancer. Furthermore, among the 14 patients who experienced stable disease, 8 reported a reduction in the size of target lesions, and 7 showed moderate to high Claudin18.2 expression.

In summary, QLS31905 has demonstrated favorable safety, tolerability, and preliminary antitumor activity in patients with advanced solid tumors. The Phase II clinical trial are now in progress to further assess the efficacy and safety of QLS31905.

Mastercard Economics Institute: Asia Pacific Consumers Will Likely Have More to Spend on Discretionary Items in 2024

0

As inflation wanes, the cost of essentials is easing, leaving more wallet share for other purchases

Chinese outbound travel expected to further accelerate, buoying destinations in Asia and globally

SINGAPORE, Dec. 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI) has released its annual economic outlook for the coming year, outlining the bright spots and watchouts that will define global growth. According to Economic Outlook: Balancing Prices & Priorities, while there is no one-size-fits-all story for the Asia Pacific region, the macro picture is expected to be one of modest growth, largely on par with 2023 levels, as economies continue to stabilize and key drivers of growth, like exports and tourism, edge closer to pre-pandemic norms.

Drilling down into individual economies, growth expectations are mixed across the region. On one end of the spectrum, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, and South Korea should see upticks while slowdowns are anticipated in Australia, the Chinese Mainland, Japan and New Zealand. India and Indonesia are expected to hold largely steady at 2023 levels.

Anticipated Spend Shifts
As the economic ripple effects of the pandemic subside in 2024, Asia Pacific consumers should be able to allocate a larger share of their wallets to discretionary spend such as travel and entertainment. This is in comparison to 2022-2023, years marked by high inflation, that caused essentials (or ‘needs’) like groceries and fuel to take up a larger percentage of household budgets, leaving less money left over for ‘wants’ or extras.

"2024 is set to be a year of recalibration as consumers rebalance their wallets. And what the data shows is that people remain eager to travel and dine out, although levels vary from market to market," said David Mann, Chief Economist, Asia Pacific, Mastercard. "Amidst this disorienting global backdrop, the Mastercard Economics Institute helps clients to translate macroeconomic forces down to the country, category, and even company levels, in addition to counseling on possible scenarios and the implications they would have on demand."

Signifying another shift in demand, in 2024, consumers across Asia Pacific are expected to spend more on goods than they did in 2023. This marks the start of a new cycle that will see growth rates for goods rebounding to pre-pandemic levels, reversing the 2022-2023 trend that saw consumers prioritizing key ‘out-and-about’ services such as dining and ‘revenge’ travel as economies re-opened post-pandemic.

In 2024, the rising demand for goods, such as household items and clothing, is also expected to resuscitate the Asia Pacific manufacturing sector, which plays a crucial role in the global economy. This shift will drive a convergence in performance between the manufacturing and services sectors in the region which trended in opposite directions as manufacturing lagged and services boomed in 2023.

The China Story
The headline for 2024 will be a further recovery of Chinese outbound travel. The addition of more countries to China’s approved list for group travel, which typically have less stringent visa restrictions compared to individual travel, will continue to support overseas tourism spending.

The recovery of specific corridors will hinge on the authorities’ prioritization of flight capacity allocation. While Southeast Asia destinations such as Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand were early outperformers in 2023, it is expected that destinations in Northeast Asia, North America and Europe should catch up in 2024.

"The recovery in China’s outbound spending will continue to be closely watched," adds Mann. "Pre-pandemic, tourists from the Chinese Mainland focused heavily on shopping, particularly for luxury goods, when traveling internationally. Post-pandemic, spending on experiences such as entertainment and dining have seen a stronger recovery among early travellers out of the Chinese Mainland. This shift in travel spending priorities suggests that tourism authorities and retailers globally may have to adapt their strategies to maintain their appeal to Chinese visitors."

Economic Outlook: Balancing Prices & Priorities examined 13 markets[1] across Asia and Oceania alone, drawing on multiple public and proprietary data sets, including aggregated and anonymized Mastercard sales activity, as well as models that are intended to estimate economic activity.

Fresh funds to upskill virtual production talents and strengthen capabilities

5. The fund will grow the local virtual production talent pool by tapping on overseas trainers to deliver higher quality training, extending training to Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) lecturers, and introducing VP modules into the existing media curriculum. For example, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic, will run VP curriculums from April 2024. Local virtual production studio, Aux Media Group (Aux) will also partner with XON Studios, one of the pioneer VP studios in South Korea, to train and mentor local filmmakers to use VP for their storytelling.

6. The Virtual Production Innovation Fund was first announced in December 2022 with a S$5 million tranche to encourage local media companies to experiment with VP, and has seen remarkable success in improving the industry’s capabilities and opportunities with this emerging technology. To date, more than 20 creative projects have been made possible through the Virtual Production Innovation Fund and have exposed more than 300 media professionals with hands-on experience in virtual production. For example, Mediacorp applied VP in one of its upcoming Chinese drama series Once Upon A New Year’s Eve, to recreate historical monuments such as the Singapore National Theatre and the old National Library at Stamford Road to awaken a sense of nostalgia amongst Singaporeans. Local production company Refinery Media used VP to create a dense forest environment and a mythical dragon in Sleeping Beauty, a project that was selected through IMDA’s Virtual Production Innovation Call (Short-form).

7. Local companies and talent with VP projects that were supported by IMDA in the past year, recognised the value of the use of VP in production and how this technology has helped unlock new dimensions to their storytelling. The injection of fresh funds will enable more local media companies and talent to hone their capabilities with this emerging technology while working on projects that utilise VP.

8. As IMDA strengthens its support for media companies adopting emerging technologies, local VP studios such as Oceanus Media Global and Aux are already investing in the upgrading of their VP studios to meet the growing demand. Nanyang Polytechnic will also be stepping up to build local capabilities in VP.

The future of film and content production at ATF

9. International showcases and in-depth discussions on the role of technologies will be on ATF’s agenda this year, which runs from now until 8 December. Attendees can attend the Virtual Production Afternoon at the Singapore Pavilion, where panellists from Mediacorp and local production houses Weiyu Films and Ajacent Media, will showcase a teaser of their latest VP works and delve into their experiences working with virtual production. A panel of industry experts and creatives from Mediacorp, Viddsee and Scrawl Animation as well as a legal expert from the National University of Singapore, will also be present to discuss generative AI’s impact on the Media sector.

STUTTGART, Germany, Dec. 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — International expert organization DEKRA is predicting a historic sales record for 2023. "So far, 2023 has been an excellent year for DEKRA", said Stan Zurkiewicz, DEKRA CEO and Chairman of the Management Board in his preliminary review of the year. "We are very optimistic that we will hit a revenue of over four billion euros in the full year. That is a historic first for DEKRA, and we are very excited." Beyond excellent business figures, DEKRA reports that its strategy 2025 is on track and bearing fruits. The company has successfully introduced training, advisory, testing, validation and inspection services in its strategic growth areas Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Sustainability, and Future Mobility, establishing itself as strategic partner across the entire value chain of these domains.
