Thailand Privilege Card’s ‘Elite Flexible One’ membership programme extended for 2 more years

Bangkok, 25 July, 2022 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to report that the Thailand Privilege Card (TPC) is extending its Elite Flexible One membership programme for another two years, through until 31 December, 2024.

The decision to continue the programme – which was scheduled to end in 2022 – is in response to the positive feedback received from foreign investors who have joined as Elite Flexible One members. As a member, foreigners are able to enjoy both membership privileges and favourable opportunities for property investment in Thailand.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said “The Elite Flexible One programme has proven a valuable tool in promoting property opportunities in Thailand to foreign markets and in generating much needed revenue in what has been a difficult period. We are happy to see the programme being extended.”

Since the Elite Flexible One programme was introduced in March 2020, it has brought in over 100 million Baht from real estate investment by foreigners, including substantial revenue that was generated for the country during the COVID-19 situation.

Ms. Ratchadawan Loetsilathong, TPC Acting President, said the extension of the Elite Flexible One membership programme for a further two years would help real estate operators drive their sales volume and thus stimulate the overall Thai economy. It would also draw more foreigners to Thailand, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic weakening and the kingdom having reopened its borders.

The number of property operators participating in the Elite Flexible One programme currently stands at 22, which between them are offering 77 development projects that members can invest in.

To be eligible for Elite Flexible One membership, the applicant must purchase condominium-type real estate with a total value of not less than 10 million Baht and be a Thailand Elite cardholder.

More information on Elite Flexible One and Thailand Elite membership can be found at www.thailandelite.com.

Cambodia’s Border Reopening: Opportunities for Tourism Sector

0

Cambodia’s border reopening is a boost to its tourism industry, which is an important contributor to the economy, behind the textile and garment manufacturing sector.

The tourism industry will be of greater importance after the country lost its ‘Everything but Arms’ (EBA) status by the EU – an EBA status had previously enabled Cambodia to enjoy duty-free access to EU markets.

Cambodia is now fully open to foreign travelers although there are still quarantine requirements for travelers who are not fully vaccinated.

The country is among a slew of ASEAN countries that have opened their borders to international travelers. Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia have eased border restrictions to varying degrees. For instance, Vietnam and Malaysia have allowed entry of foreign travelers regardless of their vaccination status whereas Indonesia and Singapore primarily only allow fully vaccinated travelers; unvaccinated travelers can enter if they have a medical reason and will have to undergo quarantine.

The border relaxation will be a boost to Cambodia’s tourism sector, which plays a vital role in the country’s economic growth, contributing to some 12 percent of GDP annually.

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic saw international traveler…

Lower land transfer and mortgage fees for Thai nationals only

Lower land transfer and mortgage fees for Thai nationals only

The measure to lower transfer and mortgage fees for properties costing more than three million baht was meant for Thai nationality only, the government spokesman said on Friday.

“The interior ministry’s announcement which came into effect since January 18 was meant for Thai nationality only,” Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana told reporters.

He was referring to the Ministry of Interior’s measure to lower transfer and mortgage fees for properties costing more than three million baht from two per cent down to 0.01 per cent which was approved by the Cabinet and came into effect in January.

Government critics were attacking the government for introducing incentives for foreigners to buy up lands in Thailand.

“The government never had an idea to allow foreign nationals to use this privilege,” he said.

Thanakorn explained that the Ministry of Interior’s latest measure to allow foreigners who invest 40 million baht for at least three years in Thailand to purchase a residence on a one rai of land does not relate to the interior ministry’s announcement of the lowered transfer and mortgage fees in January.

Deputy Interior Minister Nipon Boonyamanee said on Wednesday that the ministry will propose the measure to allow foreigners who invest 40 million baht for at least three years in Thailand to purchase a residence on a one rai of land to the Cabinet but he did not say when.

Only four groups of foreigners will be allowed to participate including affluent individuals, retirees, job seekers and experts within targeted industries.

TAT strengthens presence in the Middle East market

0

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is strengthening Thailand’s presence as the preferred tourist destination among Middle East travellers to drive interest in returning to Thailand in the post COVID-19 situation.

This has come about through the recent participation in the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2022, latest partnerships with Qatar Airways and Almosafer – one of the region’s top three largest online travel agents, and a number of marketing and promotional activities.

TAT led a Thai delegation that included 18 hotels, three hospitals, two travel agencies and one theme park to participate in the ATM 2022, held on 9-12 May, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Across the four-day event, the Thai delegation had on average 128 business appointments each, or over 3,000 sessions combined. This is expected to boost tourism from the Middle East market to Thailand, and generate about one billion Baht income for 2022.

“The interest in returning to Thailand is on the rise, and this is certainly a sign that the market was recovering quickly after the COVID-19 situation. Thailand’s focus at the ATM 2022 was on doing business with the upper market segment, such as families, medical treatment groups, and the new sector of women travelling on their own for…
