Volvo Trucks is moving forward in its Sustainability journey across Southeast Asia markets

Volvo Trucks FL-E Refuse

SINGAPORE, Oct. 31, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Volvo Trucks continues to lead the market while advancing markets globally. After providing the first environmentally friendly transportation in a few Southeast Asian regions, we are currently having positive discussions with customers in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Thailand. Even if the market for renewable fuels is still small, a definite trend can be seen: many of our clients are now starting their own move to environmentally friendly transportation. Volvo Trucks provides services that can help our clients prevent empty truckloads, cut down on waste in the transportation system, and improve logistics. This will benefit both the environment and the operators.

Volvo Trucks FL-E Refuse

The sustainable transport product line is now being made accessible in new areas in Southeast Asia, which has made this quarter exciting. The trend is clear: many of our clients are already starting their own transition to electric, even if there isn’t much of a market for electric trucks. By 2030, we aspire to be the driving force behind a move toward electric vehicles that will account for 50% of all new trucks sold globally.

According to Ms. Anna Engblom, Managing Director for Southeast Asia & Japan at Volvo Trucks, "Our commitment to sustainable transport is definitely paying off. We’ve positioned a selection of the electric models across markets like Taiwan, Singapore, and Hongkong. We’re committed to collaborating closely with our clients to decarbonize truck transportation. Additionally, she stated, "Governments play a big part in determining how rapidly countries switch to sustainable transportation. To accelerate adoption, a number of progressive countries are taking the lead by using financial incentives, targeted tariffs, environmental zones, and other strategies. Therefore, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of the same is one of our important priorities.

We further strengthened our brands position as a leader in electric truck transport. It could seem like a major step to transition to electromobility. Many markets nowadays are starting talks with customers after strapping their running shoes. We are here to make sure customers have the precise trucks and services they need to meet their demands for efficiency and performance all the way through the daily planning and management of their operation.

Customers interested in sustainable transportation should utilize the ‘Environmental Footprint Calculator’ to determine the whole environmental impact of their trucks, which includes CO2 emissions, raw material extraction, manufacturing resources, and recycling emissions. This tool offers a comprehensive perspective of how various decisions might impact environmental footprints and makes it simple to compare various options. For instance, based on mileage and energy mix, an electric Volvo truck may be compared to a gas or diesel-powered vehicle. Customers may use this knowledge to lessen the environmental impact of their supply chain, which could result in additional contracts.

Since Volvo Trucks started producing fully electric trucks in 2019, the company has taken orders for 6,000 electric trucks in 42 countries around the world. Volvo now produces electric trucks in four factories in Belgium, France, Sweden, and the US. The company’s target is that half of its global sales of new trucks will be electric by 2030.

We are looking forward to be a part of the exciting growth opportunity on our path called progress.

While meeting the demand for travel to popular destinations abroad, Vietjet’s international routes have contributed to the bilateral development of tourism, trade and investment, offering support to the economic recovery. The airline, in Q3/2023, opened seven new international routes, bringing the total number of routes to 125 (45 domestic and 80 international routes). It is the first airline to have flights connecting Vietnam with the five largest cities in Australia, including Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Vietjet’s separate and consolidated revenues were reported at VND13,548 trillion (approx. US$551.38 milion) and VND14,235 trillion (approx. Vietjet also focused on ancillary and cargo revenue, which had relatively high profit margins. Their revenue, which reached VND5,029 billion (approx. US$204.87 million) in total, accounted for 40% of the airline’s total air transport-related revenue and grew by 26% YoY and 77% over Q3/2019’s.

As of September 30, 2023, Vietjet’s total assets reached over VND76,500 billion (approx. US$3.11 billion). The debt-to-equity ratio stood at 1.5 times while the liquidity ratio was 1.4 times, resting within safe levels of the aviation industry.

Vietjet continues to play a leading role in driving the economy, commerce, and tourism. It is a reliable strategic partner for reputable organizations worldwide.

Its cash and cash equivalents balance as of September 30, 2023 was recorded at VND2,077 billion (approx. US$84.36 million). Such plus the working capital guarantee the company’s immediate solvency.

Vietjet, in the first nine months of 2023, has paid nearly VND3,750 billion (approx. US$152.6 million) of direct and indirect taxes and fees.

During the official visit of the US President to Vietnam, Vietjet signed an agreement with Boeing on the delivery of 200 737 MAX aircraft worth of US$25 billion over the next five years. It also reached an agreement with Carlyle Aviation for aircraft financing worth US$550 million.

With a sustainable business development strategy and remarkable growth post-pandemic, Vietjet has attracted the attention of many local and foreign investors. In Q3/2023, Vietjet reached preliminary agreements with three Vietnam-based institutional investors committing to invest US$100 million. They will enhance the airline’s financial capacity from equity capital to meet the needs of growth, investment, network expansion, and fleet expansion. The investment transactions are expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023.

With a strategy to build the aviation human resources of international standards, Vietjet has also invested in infrastructure upgrade and developing a pool of trainers at the Vietjet Aviation Academy (VJAA). In September 2023, VJAA officially signed a cooperation agreement and became a training partner of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The airline has also received numerous international and domestic awards, including "Asia’s Leading Airline for Customer Experience" by the World Travel Awards, "Top 100 Most Valuable Brands in Vietnam," and "Top 10 Strong Brands for Sustainable Development 2023." Meanwhile, Vietjet SkyJoy was the "New Innovative Product" at the Better Choice Awards.

While still committing to its mission of realizing the "flying dream" for millions of Vietnamese and international travelers, Vietjet has been all in for environmental and community responsibilities in each locality where it operates. In October 2023, Vietjet launched the Fly Green fundraising program with the meaningful message of "Every red ticket for one green planet". Accordingly, the airline contributes VND5,000 (approx. US 20 cents) from each ticket sold to the fund to sponsor environmental protection programs.

Chula’s Faculty of Allied Health Sciences Promotes “46 Recipes to Train Swallowing” in Elderly and Troubled Patients

BANGKOK, Oct. 31, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — A lecturer from the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Chulalongkorn University in collaboration with the Thai Dietetic Association, has developed 46 nutritious recipes for swallowing training in the elderly, and patients with difficulty swallowing based on recommendations of The International Dysphagia Diet Standardization (IDDSI).

Chula’s Faculty of Allied Health Sciences Promotes “46 Recipes to Train Swallowing” in Elderly and Troubled Patients

"Once you get older and are plagued by oral health and hygiene problems along with other physical conditions that affect the ability to chew and swallow food you can often lose your appetite and this eventually leads to malnutrition and other health problems," Varanya Techasukthavorn of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Chulalongkorn University explained the problem that has become an increasingly crucial subject in a full-fledged aging society such as Thailand.

"There are also patients suffering from brain and neurological conditions, strokes or cancer in the head and neck with side effects caused by the treatment such as stomatitis that causes mouth sores which means they can only eat very soft, mashed food."

For this reason, Varanya and her research team came up with "46 Menus to Train Swallowing According to International Standards (IDDSI)" – Thailand’s first cookbook for caregiving of the elderly and those with difficulty swallowing.

"Food that trains people to swallow is a rather new concept in Thailand.  The standards for this type of food did not exist before and this is the first recipe book that compiles all the recipes that comply with IDDSI standards," Varanya explained.

"All the recipes derive from the concepts and suggestions compiled from medical practitioners and patients’ feedback.  The Top 5 in the survey are Palo Egg Stew, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Stir-fry with basil, Tom Yum soup with shrimps and stir-fry pumpkin with eggs."

"We then developed the foods with the texture and viscosity suitable for the elderly and computed the nutritional value to get the food and drinks with high energy and protein.  The food should also have an appealing appearance similar to what they eat in everyday life to boost the patient’s appetite."

The recipes have been tested with patients in many hospitals both in Bangkok and other provinces.

To download the 46 recipes for IDDSI standard foods, access https://www.thaidietetics.org/?p=9527,  Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/happytoswallow, or call +668-0338-7443 for further information.
