0

SEONGNAM, South Korea, Oct. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — SNOW Corporation (Founder and CEO, Changwook Kim) is making waves worldwide with its AI Yearbook, introduced through the AI photo editing app EPIK.

AI Yearbook is one of the features offered by the EPIK app, which generates 60 images in the style of 1990s American yearbook albums using 8 to 12 selfie photos as input. The Express version allows users to receive results within 2 hours for $5.99, while the Standard version available within 24 hours is priced at $3.99.

In particular, the company stated that during the process of showcasing services that have received great love from users in Asia, such as AI avatars and AI profiles, they were able to address user feedback and overcome limitations in order to achieve more natural results.

EPIK topped app stores in 56 countries and regions around the world, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong SAR, and Thailand.

Team EPIK explained that they planned this service based on the concept of yearbooks, which is familiar to people worldwide. They stated, "For those who have actually experienced yearbooks in their local region or generation, it brings back memories from the past. And for those who haven’t had that experience, it stimulates curiosity and provides an enjoyable element to explore."

Once the output is generated, images are deleted from the server, ensuring convenient utilization without concerns about user data.

The 8-12 images provided by the user will be immediately deleted as soon as the results of the 90s retro concept photo are displayed. This will allow users to enjoy the AI Yearbook service without worrying about the leakage of personal information.

The AI Yearbook concept was created by the EPIK team as part of a separate research project. User photos are not used in the development or enhancement of EPIK services.

A representative from SNOW corp. stated, "Ensuring users to enjoy fun services securely without concerns about personal information has been our top priority since the launch", adding "We will continue to introduce various AI based services that add fun to our daily lives and make new discoveries."

Gates Foundation Celebrates 20 Years of "Grand Challenges" With New Investments and a Call to Make R&D Breakthroughs Available More Quickly and Equitably

Commitments focus on advancing equitable access to artificial intelligence (AI) and vaccines, and catalyzing innovations that address women’s health

SEATTLE and DAKAR, Senegal, Oct. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — A slate of new initiatives to support locally led innovation was announced today in Dakar by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and its partners at the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting. The investments come with an urgent call for countries to step up funding to make the research and development (R&D) of health and development innovations easier and faster, and to make the next generation of scientific and technological breakthroughs relevant and accessible to all.

Data shows that while overall health R&D funding is increasing, only about 2% is directed toward diseases that affect the world’s poorest people. In 2020, the annual funding gap for product development targeting poverty-related and neglected diseases was estimated at US$2.6 billion.

"Over the past two decades, global investments in a pipeline of innovative solutions helped reduce childhood deaths under 5 by half," said Moussa Balde, Senegal’s minister for higher education, research and innovation. "But lifesaving innovations still take too long to reach those who need them and are not always designed with equity from the start. Grand Challenges Senegal continues to invest in the country’s brightest scientists and innovators, and we are pleased to be part of this global network of Grand Challenges partners investing in locally led solutions to ensure innovations, including in health, education, and agriculture, benefit everyone equally."

Launched in 2003, Grand Challenges, the foundation’s flagship innovation program, focuses attention and funding on pressing global health and development problems that affect the world’s poorest people, using open calls for proposals to crowdsource potential solutions.

In an address to the more than 1,400 scientists, policymakers, and donors attending the annual meeting, Bill Gates, co-chair of the Gates Foundation, called for the world to spend at least US$3 billion more every year on global health and development R&D in order to close the critical gaps in funding for neglected diseases.

"New health technologies have the potential to save millions of lives, but R&D funding is going in the wrong direction," said Gates. "Donors need to step up their commitments to ensure health innovations reach those who need them more quickly, so more lives can be saved."

Today, Gates announced that the foundation is investing US$30 million to support a new artificial intelligence (AI) platform in Africa. The platform will provide African scientists and innovators with the technical and operational support they need to turn promising ideas into scalable health and development solutions. It is a step towards ensuring the benefits of AI are relevant, affordable, and accessible to everyone—particularly those in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)—and that these critical tools are developed safely, ethically, and equitably. The foundation will continue to work closely with technical partners and governments to further advance the platform and identify opportunities to jointly advance the use of AI for health and development.

Yesterday, the foundation also announced new investments aimed at expanding access to a novel mRNA vaccine manufacturing platform that gives countries, including Senegal and South Africa, the technology to develop and manufacture their own vaccines. mRNA technology is considered a potential game-changer for a range of infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, malaria, and Lassa fever, which disproportionately affect people in LMICs. This additional local vaccine manufacturing capacity will support LMICs to develop low-cost, high-quality vaccines that address their most urgent health priorities.

"What started as a single program funded by the Gates Foundation and its partners has grown into a family of initiatives and partnerships across national borders, fields of study, and sectors that catalyze research, products, and partnerships to save and improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people," said Kedest Tesfagiorgis, deputy director, global partnerships and Grand Challenges at the foundation. "Our community of brilliant innovators is proof that a great idea can come from anywhere and be supported by the funders, policymakers, and advocates needed to move ideas into the laboratory and, ultimately, to the people who can most benefit from them."

Grand Challenges is supported by the governments of India, China, Brazil, the United States, and Canada, as well as a growing number of countries in Africa, including Ethiopia, Rwanda, Senegal, and South Africa. Since 2003, partners have invested US$1.6 billion to support more than 3,800 projects in 118 countries—from new strategies to improve gut health in moms and children to reinventing the toilet for improved sanitation to reimagining drug discovery research for malaria, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases.

To further support scientists developing cutting-edge innovations in LMICs, the foundation and its partners also issued new calls for proposals in the following areas:

Equitable AI for health in LMICs. Building on a recent Grand Challenge (GC) to develop global health and development solutions in LMICs using AI-enabled large language models (LLMs), GC partners issued a request for proposals of up to US$5.5 million to help advance the development of robust, locally relevant, AI-empowered tools to expedite decision-making, policy pathways, and implementation by frontline health workers and policymakers. The call is led by GC Brazil, GC India, GC Ethiopia, GC Senegal, GC South Africa, and GC Africa, with support from GC Canada, the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, the Pasteur Network, and the Gates Foundation. Women’s health R&D to unlock the potential of half the world’s population and unleash a powerful engine for progress. The Women’s Health Innovation Opportunity Map 2023 is a new report outlining 50 equitable, high-return opportunities across the R&D continuum to maximize research and innovation, investments, and global action in women’s health. To encourage innovations and ideas laid out in the Opportunity Map, the foundation announced a new request for proposals that will provide up to US$3.6 million in funding. Innovations in global health and development across other critical areas of need. The full list of new requests for proposals can be found here.

The 2023 Grand Challenges Annual Meeting in Dakar is hosted by the Global Grand Challenges network of partners and the government of Senegal, and sponsored by Grand Challenges Canada, the United States Agency for International Development, Wellcome, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

About Grand Challenges

The Grand Challenges family of programs stems from a century-old idea that crowdsourcing solutions to a defined set of unsolved problems can spark innovation and accelerate progress. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and its Grand Challenges funding partners first used Challenges—open requests for grant proposals—in 2003 to focus attention and effort on pressing global health and development problems for those most in need. Together, Grand Challenges partners have awarded US$1.6 billion across 3,800 grants to a diverse pool of problem solvers in 118 countries, while at the same time fostering a global innovation ecosystem in places where it will have the most impact. The foundation and its Grand Challenges partners will continue to launch RFPs to support innovators from around the world in tackling the hardest, most urgent Grand Challenges. Scorpion Therapeutics and Pierre Fabre Laboratories Announce First Patient Dosed in Phase 1/2 Clinical Trial of STX-721, a Mutant-Selective EGFR Exon 20 Inhibitor for the Treatment of Locally Advanced or Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

0

— STX-721 is characterized by high selectivity and a potentially best-in-class profile —

— Scorpion’s second program to enter clinical development this year —

— One of two EGFR programs being developed with Pierre Fabre Laboratories —

BOSTON and CASTRES, France, Oct. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Scorpion Therapeutics, Inc. ("Scorpion"), a pioneering clinical-stage oncology company redefining the frontier of precision medicine through its Precision Oncology 2.0 strategy, and Pierre Fabre Laboratories today announced that the first patient has been dosed in a Phase 1/2 first-in-human dose escalation and expansion clinical trial evaluating STX-721, Scorpion’s highly differentiated, orally bioavailable, irreversible highly selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor ("TKI") targeting epidermal growth factor receptor ("EGFR") and ERBB2 (HER2) Exon 20 insertion ("ex20ins") mutations, well-known, clinically validated oncogenic drivers in non-small cell lung cancer ("NSCLC"). The Phase 1/2 clinical trial will evaluate STX-721 as a monotherapy in participants with locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC harboring EGFR ex20ins mutations.

NSCLC is the most common sub-type of lung cancer and various EGFR mutations are the most frequent drivers of NSCLC, occurring in up to 38% of tumors, depending on geography.[1],[2],[3] Of this population, up to 10% have ex20ins mutations.[4]

"We are excited to begin the clinical evaluation of STX-721, our mutant-selective EGFR ex20ins inhibitor with a potentially best-in-class profile, for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer," said Axel Hoos, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Scorpion. "The initiation of our second clinical trial this year underscores our research team’s productivity and execution, as well as the confidence that Scorpion and Pierre Fabre Laboratories have in the quality, selectivity, and potential clinical differentiation of this compound. Based on preclinical data to-date, we believe that STX-721 is more selective and can provide a wider therapeutic window than other therapies currently on the market or in development and, as a result, has the potential to deliver superior efficacy to this highly underserved patient population."

"We are pleased to see STX-721 enter the clinic, and the overall progress we’ve achieved since we announced the partnership with Scorpion six months ago," said Eric Ducournau, Chief Executive Officer of Pierre Fabre Laboratories. "Our two teams have been working closely on both of the EGFR candidates and we look forward to seeing how patients may benefit from this targeted therapy."

STX-721 is an oral treatment designed to be mutant-selective and optimized for tolerability and efficacy when compared to currently available commercial treatments. Existing therapeutic options face significant limitations that are associated with the inhibition of wild-type EGFR in healthy tissues, including serious adverse events often leading to dose reductions or interruptions.

"STX-721 is a wild-type-sparing, oral inhibitor of EGFR ex20ins mutations with a compelling preclinical selectivity profile," said Michael Streit, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of Scorpion. "In this Phase 1/2 trial, we will aim to demonstrate how these unique qualities translate into a potentially best-in-class product profile that increases response rates as a result of its optimized design. We look forward to partnering with study investigators, as well as our colleagues at Pierre Fabre Laboratories, to evaluate STX-721 in patients with EGFR ex20ins-mutated NSCLC."

About STX-721 Phase 1/2 Trial

Scorpion’s Phase 1/2 clinical trial, in collaboration with Pierre Fabre Laboratories, is a multi-center, open-label study designed to evaluate the safety and tolerability of STX-721 in multiple ascending doses for patients with locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC driven by EGFR mutations. The goal of the trial is to characterize the safety profile of STX-721 and determine a maximum tolerated dose or a lower optimal-biologically active dose, if appropriate, as the recommended Phase 2 dose ("RP2D") as a monotherapy for NSCLC driven by EGFR exon20ins mutations. Once the RP2D is established, Scorpion intends to continue to evaluate the safety, tolerability and overall efficacy of STX-721. Secondary objectives for this Phase 1/2 trial include assessing the pharmacokinetic profile, pharmacodynamic effects and clinical response as measured by Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors ("RECIST") version 1.1. Report: Southeast Asia consumer confidence on track for rebound as value-seekers embrace new "needs"

Report: Southeast Asia consumer confidence on track for rebound as value-seekers embrace new "needs"

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 10 October 2023 – Meta, Bain & Company, DSG Consumer Partners, launched its annual SYNC Southeast Asia report ‘Bold Moves: Leading Southeast Asia’s next wave of consumer growth’ today. The report revealed insights into the evolving landscape of Southeast Asian consumers and how this diversity presents significant opportunities for businesses in the region both in the near and long term.

A new hierarchy of needs vs wants emerges

39% of consumers we surveyed in Southeast Asia indicated a reduction in average spend in the past year, citing top concerns around economic stability (63%) and cost of living (58%). The largest drop in spend was observed in alcohol and electronics, while food, personal care and wellness categories remained resilient.

However, the report observed that despite reduced spending, consumers are reprioritising what they perceive to be needs vs wants. Previously cited luxuries like eating out every week, branded apparel, and latest gadgets have moved into what consumers perceive as new “needs”. Across income levels, social media was cited as the top essential category, and streaming emerged as a rising essential category.

Caption

Gen Zs and solo economy are important cohorts to engage

According to the report, Southeast Asia’s working population is set to increase by 24 million people by 2030. With rising incomes as well as the growing middle and upper middle class, the region is moving closer to a consumption inflection point which will accelerate the trajectory of consumption growth. Two consumer segments in particular drive this growth – Gen Zs and single households.

Gen Zs currently make up 23% of the total Southeast Asia population, while the solo economy, comprising single households, is growing and driven by three key demographic groups – older singles, young professionals and young urban migrants. Shifts in household sizes are expected to be most pronounced in Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, which are expected to see a 20% increase in single households by 2030.

“Southeast Asia as a region has demonstrated resilience amidst the global slowdown and consumer sentiment is rebounding in most markets. This is a great opportunity for businesses to address the needs of approximately 700 million consumers in a USD $4T economy that is forecasted to grow at 4.6% to 2030 (vs 2.7% globally). SEA has repeatedly shown its importance as part of investors’ portfolios with significant global valuation and profit and loss impact. To take the region to full potential, bold moves are required: relooking at your SEA ambition by prioritizing, sequencing and most importantly funding them. Companies should also form an obsession with local consumers and evolve operating models to be locally responsive – balancing the incumbent scale advantage and the disruptive insurgent mindset,” said Praneeth Yendamuri, Partner at Bain & Company.

According to the report, Gen Zs value individuality, authenticity, and identity more than other generations. Gen Zs are also not just digital-centric, but highly engaged in the digital community, messaging businesses an average of eight times a month, and 82% of those surveyed saying they are part of an online community.

AI is powering personalization across generations

While Gen Zs are at the forefront of digital-first behavior in Southeast Asia, older generations are quickly catching up and are not far behind in experimenting with new technology. The fact that all generations in the region are spending more time online and experimenting with new technologies such as AI, VR and healthtech will affect how Southeast Asian businesses can successfully engage with consumers.

This report identified how businesses in Southeast Asia are beginning to use AI for marketing purposes and to address region-specific issues, such as diverse languages, cultures, and preferences. “AI is powering better experiences for people and it’s powering better outcomes for businesses. At Meta, we’re combining our AI-powered discovery engine with the social connection that has always been the core of our platforms to deliver more relevant, entertaining, and locally attuned experiences. With new tools capable of big impact, it’s no surprise that marketers across Southeast Asia are already starting to lean into AI to drive more impactful engagement and performance,” said Benjamin Joe, Vice President, Southeast Asia and Emerging Markets at Meta.

On what’s to come, the report found that 73% of business leaders surveyed recognized the opportunities from AI but also admitted that they were not prepared to seize them. The report suggested that the focus on personalized marketing and the investment in AI-powered and AI-enabled tools to facilitate personalization on a large scale, will enable businesses to effectively reach Southeast Asian consumers and drive strong ROI. “Embracing AI is now more crucial than ever for businesses aiming to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape of Southeast Asia,” Mr. Joe said.

The dawn of the insurgent disruptor

Defined as brands that are new to the market and are growing five times quicker in revenue vs their category growth rate, insurgent disruptors are now responsible for US$52B revenue in Southeast Asia alone and accounted for 23% market share in 2022. Top categories where insurgent disruptors have successfully gained market share include beauty and personal care and packaged food.

“Insurgent disruptors are new brands less than 10 years old that have demonstrated strong market share growth. With ‘wants’ transitioning into ‘needs’ and dissatisfaction with what the incumbent brands provide, it is no surprise that Southeast Asian consumers are choosing insurgent disruptors to satisfy their unmet needs and evolving expectations,” said Mr. Sameer Mehta, Head of Southeast Asia at DSG Consumer Partners.

TDRU Grand Release: Unveiling the Uncertainty Data Revolution

0

SHENZHEN, China, Oct. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — In the digital age, the impact of data is becoming increasingly profound. By the end of 2022, a myriad of big data artificial intelligence models had emerged with varying degrees of quality. The effectiveness of these models highly depends on the quality of the input data, thereby imposing higher standards for data quality. However, people’s understanding of the essence of data is still at a relatively primitive stage. This has led to three major issues in existing data processing techniques: The first issue is the ignorance of the inherent uncertainty present in data; the second is a lack of effective methods for predictions; and the third is overlooking the bias introduced by the human-data relationship.

To address these issues, on October 9, 2023, Mongoose Think Tank officially launched TDRU (Tools of Data Reconstruction on Uncertainty) – a tool based on the principle of uncertainty that aims to solve the aforementioned problems through data reconstruction.

Theoretical Background of TDRU
Over time, Mongoose Think Tank has researched the sources of uncertainty extensively. In the field of data science, in his 2023 article "Uncertainty and Data Reconstruction" published in the Chinese Banking Industry magazine, Mongoose Think Tank’s Academic Committee Chairman Zhu Xiaohuang deeply discussed the issue of uncertainty in data. Zhu believes the essence of the world is uncertainty, causing randomness in human society and behavior. As data reflects the objective world and human behavior, it also carries uncertainty.

In his article "A Human-Centric Perspective on Data", Mongoose Think Tank’s expert Hu Benli argues that all data subjectively reflects humans’ perspective on the objective world. He describes an ongoing cycle where humans generate large amounts of data while simultaneously being influenced by it. This inherent bias in data, Hu states, provides the fundamental rationale for needing data governance.

To address these issues of uncertainty and human-data relationships, Mongoose Think Tank have designed and proposed a method for reconstructing data based on these principles. Our approach categorizes data into types including historical data and marginal data, natural data and behavioral data, as well as deterministic data and random data. Building upon the elimination of random data, it assigns different adjustment parameters and weights to different types of data. Subsequently, Mongoose Think Tank applied and refined this methodology in real-world scenarios, culminating in the development of TDRU (Tools for Data Reconstruction on Uncertainty) version 1.0.

Introduction to TDRU
TDRU operates through six core processes, two sets of parameters, and seven collaborative tools. It can address both types of problems arising from uncertainty and adjust biases between humans and data. TDRU is not just a methodology but also practical as a tool. Its uniqueness lies in being the first tool specifically designed to tackle issues of data uncertainty, marking a significant advance over existing data processing methods. TDRU can be widely applied to various scenarios for predicting and measuring the likelihood of future events, making it suitable for major financial institutions, commercial enterprises, and global economic forecasts by world organizations. Additionally, Mongoose Think Tank are in the process of developing a data reconstruction intelligent assistant software that integrates TDRU with large language models.

TDRU is a foundational data tool based on the principle of uncertainty, primarily aimed at the pre-analytical stage of data analysis, namely data cleansing. Due to its foundational nature, the range of its applications is extensive, covering sectors such as economics, finance, and energy, among many others that require heavy use of data for modeling, analysis, and future prediction. Consequently, its client base is diverse, encompassing enterprises, financial institutions, and international organizations across the globe that need to employ data for forecasting. Additionally, due to the high correlation between uncertainty and risk management, TDRU offers unique value in the field of risk management. Overall, TDRU is not only a multi-functional and cross-sectoral methodology with international applicability but also a potent tool capable of solving a myriad of data quality issues, thereby enhancing the accuracy of future predictions.

TDRU Application Cases
Mongoose Think Tank applied TDRU to a personal credit scorecard of a listed bank. From the perspective of model evaluation parameters, before using TDRU, the model’s AUC (Area Under Curve, which measures the authenticity of the detection method; the closer AUC is to 1.0, the higher the authenticity; at 0.5, it has the lowest authenticity and no application value) was approximately 0.84, and KS (Kolmogorov-Smirnov, which evaluates the model’s risk differentiation ability; the greater the cumulative difference between good and bad samples, the greater the KS value and the stronger the risk differentiation ability of the model) was about 0.57. After using TDRU, the AUC increased to 0.88, and KS increased to 0.59. Importantly, these effects have been corroborated across multiple product lines.

Future
Currently, TDRU Version 1.0 has matured into a valuable tool for applications in macroeconomic forecasting, risk profiling and more. It has already obtained a software copyright and submitted an application for a patent.

Today, Mongoose Think Tank sincerely present this practical tool to the community at large, hoping to collaborate with various parties to expand the boundaries and possibilities of TDRU. Currently, Mongoose Think Tank can provide corresponding services related to TDRU, including consultation, training, and data processing. Mongoose Think Tank welcome inquiries from data enterprises, financial institutions, consulting firms, or any interested organizations. Please stay tuned for the future launch of TDRU Intelligent Assistant.
