Fixed Wireless Access to Help Reduce the Digital Divide in South-East Asia with an Estimated Service Revenue Market Value of US$2.23 billion by 2028

0

SINGAPORE, Oct. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — South-East Asia (SE Asia) is home to various communities with different economic growth rates. According to global technology intelligence firm ABI Research, the Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) market will constitute 7.87 million subscriptions by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 13% between 2023 and 2028. This growth may be attributed to multiple factors, such as the increasing focus on addressing the digital divide in SE Asia, the rise of 5G activities in the region, and additional service revenue streams for Communication Service Providers (CSPs). By the end of 2028, the service revenue market for FWA is estimated to be valued at US$2.23 billion.

"Fixed Wireless Access is an ideal technology to bridge the digital gap in the South-East Asian region. Serving as a holistic solution to connect the underserved populations, FWA stands out due to its rapid deployment, cost-effectiveness, and coverage adaptability by leveraging wireless technologies like 4G and 5G to provide internet access to the underserved and unserved," says Sarah Yong, South-East Asia Digital Transformation Research Analyst at ABI Research.

The rising necessity of digital connectivity in South-East Asia accelerates the demand for broadband connectivity across the region. With countries within SE Asia such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia having low Fixed Broadband (FBB) penetration rates of below 50%, FWA has emerged as the preferred solution. In addition, the geographical challenges of archipelagic countries make it difficult to deploy fiber consistently across the islands. Thus, countries such as Indonesia have witnessed a growing interest in FWA services. Aside from this, CSPs such as Telkomsel and Globe Telecom have launched 5G FWA as the next generation of FWA connectivity. 5G FWA boasts fiber-like connectivity speeds and can offer ultra-high throughput and ultra-low latency for broadband. In contrast, countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam have widespread fiber availability, and therefore, there is less demand for FWA services.

Jake Saunders, VP for Asia Pacific, notes, "The next stage of 5G FWA in South-East Asia is using extended range mmWave. Trials between Qualcomm and Ericsson with Telkomsel in Indonesia will be key to closing the digital divide in the region. Given the mix of urban centers and hard-to-reach rural areas, extending higher-performing connectivity to those in unserved areas will be vital. However, it is important to consider other factors such as spectrum availability, regulatory environments, and collaborations between the private and public sector when implementing FWA initiatives."

These findings are from ABI Research’s Connecting the Unconnected: Utilizing FWA to Close the Digital Divide application analysis report. This report is part of ABI Research’s Southeast Asia Digital Transformation research service, which provides deep analysis and insights into the Southeast Asian markets. Based on extensive primary interviews, Application Analysis reports present an in-depth analysis of key market trends and factors for a specific application, which could focus on an individual market or geography.

SINGAPORE, Oct. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Dow (NYSE:DOW) is back with its 2023/2024 edition of its Packaging Innovation Awards (PIA), the packaging industry’s premier accolade for recognizing breakthroughs in technological advancement, sustainability and enhanced user experience. As one of the industry’s longest-running independently judged awards, the global program – now into its 35th edition – will be held in Asia-Pacific this year as the region plays host for the first time to both the judging event and awards ceremony. This marks a milestone for the awards as it continues its purpose of highlighting innovative packaging across industries and geographies.

PIA shines a spotlight on designs that demonstrate what packaging can be when industry talent harnesses creativity and technology to solve contemporary challenges across the complete packaging value chain. The 2022 edition drew more than 180 packaging submissions from 30 countries, and 28 inspiring packaging solutions were recognized for their demonstrable excellence.

This edition marks the beginning of a new biennial format that provides a longer submission period to give participants more time to collaborate with relevant partners on building out a submission. The goal is to provide an accessible platform for a greater pool of packaging professionals to have their most innovative designs judged on the world’s stage, further accelerating innovation in packaging.

The submission period opens today and closes on March 8, 2024. Award finalists will be notified on August 28, 2024, with the awards ceremony set to take place in Tokyo, Japan in October 2024.

"Through the Packaging Innovation Award, we celebrate the best in packaging that meets protection, convenience and performance needs as well as being designed for sustainability. Carter, President of Dow Packaging & Specialty Plastics.

"Given Asia-Pacific’s well-established role as the manufacturing hub of the world, there is no better time or place to shine a spotlight on and underscore the importance of packaging innovation and the impact on our lives today. With the enhanced biennial format and more multiple engagement points for participants, I look forward to seeing even more aspiring innovators rise to the mounting challenges faced by the packaging industry amidst ever-growing consumerism globally," said David Luttenberger, the 2023 PIA Jury Chairperson and Global Packaging Director for Mintel Group Ltd.

The 2023 Centi-Millionaire Report: The Emergence of a New Class of Super-Rich

0

LONDON, Oct. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — There are currently 28,420 centi-millionaires in the world, more than double the number 20 years ago, and an increase of 12% compared to this time last year, according to the 2023 Centi-Millionaire Report released today by wealth and investment migration advisors Henley & Partners and featuring exclusive data from global wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth. This fast-growing global elite of highly influential super-wealthy movers and shakers boast investable assets of USD 100 million or more.

As outlined in the inaugural report last year, at a country level, most centi-millionaires (or ‘centis’) are concentrated in the USA (38%), followed by the large emerging markets of China and India. One third of the world’s centi-millionaire community live in 50 key cities across the globe, with New York City wearing the crown with 775 resident centi-millionaires.

Dr. Juerg Steffen, CEO of Henley & Partners, says the USD 100 million plus band represents the best definition in today’s world of what it means to be ‘super-wealthy’. "Not long ago, in the late 1990s, USD 30 million was considered by most banks as the fortune that was needed to meet this status. However, asset prices have risen significantly since then, making USD 100 million the new benchmark."

Top centi cities

Hot on the heels of NYC in first place comes the Bay Area with 692 resident centi-millionaires, followed by Los Angeles with 504 centis. This super-rich cohort has grown by just over 5% in the Big Apple over the past 12 months, compared to 11% in the Bay Area. Chicago also makes it into the Top 10, securing 9th place with 286 centi-millionaires, but this is a significant drop of nearly 16% compared to last year.

Overall, the USA has 12 cities in the Top 50, with a combined total of 3,311 centis, representing 11.7% of the world’s centi-millionaire population as of June 2023.

By contrast, the UK has only one city in the Top 50, London, which comes in 4th place with 388 centi-millionaires, representing 1.4% of the world’s centi population. Once the global center of affluence and influence, London appears to have taken a dip. A year ago, there were 406 centis in the UK’s capital city — a loss of 4.4% in just 12 months.

There is impressive representation from Asia in the upper rankings, with four Asian cities and territories among the world’s Top 10 centi-millionaire hotspots. Mainland China has two Top 10 cities: Beijing is 5th with 365 centi-millionaires and Shanghai is 6th with 332. Singapore follows in 7th place with 330 centis while Hong Kong (SAR China), in 8th place, is home to 305 centi-millionaires. Paris and Ile-de-France come in 10th place, boasting 280 resident centi-millionaires between them.

Growth forecast to flourish in Global South

Of the Top 50 cities, the e-commerce hub of Hangzhou in China is expected to see the highest growth in its centi-millionaire population in the next decade with a projected 95% increase, closely followed by the prominent tech hub, Shenzhen (88%).

The emerging global business center of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and India’s largest commercial hub Delhi are projected to see the 3rd-highest growth of 85% each between now and 2033, while financial capital Mumbai is forecast to enjoy an 80% growth in its centi-millionaire community. Tech-friendly Austin in the USA also has a very strong growth projection of 84% by 2033.

Dubai, with its vibrant and diversified economy, is not far behind Mumbai, with centi-millionaire growth of 78% projected over the next 10 years, followed by China’s main transport and trading nexus Guangzhou (76%), and the world’s most expensive city, Monaco (72%).

The numbers in Australia also look poised to increase sharply — by 67% in Melbourne, 60% in Sydney, and 57% in Perth. By contrast, centi-millionaire growth figures are forecast to be a sluggish 17% in Los Angeles, 12% in London, 6% in Chicago, and just 5% in Moscow.

  • Guest-of-Honour Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development & Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration, presented the Sustainability Excellence Awards

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 10 October 2023 – EdgeProp Singapore has announced the winners of its annual EdgeProp Excellence Awards (EPEA) at a gala luncheon and dinner on October 6, held at the newly-opened Pan Pacific Orchard this year.

LEI_EPEA2023_GALA_DINNER_122_AC.jpg

The celebrations were held in 2 parts, with a luncheon celebrating the top transacting real estate salespersons, and a dinner celebrating the outstanding property developers with their developments.

The prestigious dinner event recognises and celebrates outstanding property developers and their developments that set a benchmark of excellence in Singapore’s real estate industry.

“This is our 7th annual EdgeProp Excellence Awards here in Singapore, and our most meaningful edition yet. The theme of this year’s awards is ‘Sustainable Spaces’. The term ‘sustainable’ in this context is two-fold. On one hand, it represents our collective effort towards meeting Singapore’s net-zero emissions target by 2050. But ‘sustainable’ also speaks to another critical aspect of our journey. It refers to ensuring affordable and sufficient housing, which meets not only the basic needs but also the aspirations of Singaporeans. It’s about making sure every Singapore resident has a place to call home, a space to grow, dream, and thrive.” says Bernard Tong, CEO of EdgeProp Singapore.

The gala night was the first EdgeProp Excellence Awards graced by Minister for National Development, Desmond Lee and saw 220 guests in attendance, including key VIPs in the real estate industry. The event is sponsored by Geberit Southeast Asia, V-Zug Singapore and Mitsubishi Electric Asia Pacific, Official Knowledge Partners KPMG Singapore and CPG Corporation, and Supporting Partners Cosentino and Surface iD Studio.

“Today, we celebrate the success of many outstanding projects, and the collective effort by all to bring our real estate industry to greater heights. These projects are not just developments or assets, but they are the places that many of us proudly call home,” says Minister Desmond Lee. “In this vein, I am delighted that the theme of this year’s awards is “Sustainable Spaces”. Climate change is one of the most pressing, if not the most pressing challenge of our time, and the need for sustainable development has never been more urgent. That is why we launched the Singapore Green Plan 2030 two years ago, in the midst of the pandemic. This Singapore Green Plan is a whole-of-nation movement to galvanise climate action,” he adds.

The esteemed judges of EPEA 2022 were Angela Lim, Co-founder of SuMisura; Desmond Sim, CEO of Edmund Tie & Company; Sky Seah, Academic Director at National University of Singapore; Tang Kok Thye, Associate Partner of ADDP Architects LLP; Yvonne Tan, Director of DP Green; and Bernard Tong, CEO of EdgeProp Singapore. The sustainability scoring methodology was developed by CPG Corporation, which borrows components from Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark Certification Scheme. After judging the nominees based on six categories: Landscape, Design, Innovation, Sustainability, Showflat, and Marketing, the aggregated scores were carefully reviewed by KPMG Singapore.

“Lastly, to all the winners of this year’s awards, congratulations. You have crafted not just structures from an empty field, but spaces that people are proud to call home. Spaces that welcome friends and family with open arms, spaces that provide comfort and solace after a long day’s toil. As we look towards the future, we do so with anticipation for the new heights you will reach and the new boundaries you will break next year.” Tong adds.

The gala luncheon in the earlier part of the day was the first dedicated EdgeProp Real Estate Salesperson Excellence Awards to be held, hosting 100 guests in the Real Estate Salesperson industry. It recognises exceptional real estate agents who are the top transactors in their respective categories.

“Elevated inflation and soaring interest rates, compounded by cooling measures and buyers’ fatigue, the second half of 2022 and 2023 have proven to be challenging and competitive to most in the industry. Looking ahead, we’re in the midst of a big shake-up across various sectors, including real estate, all thanks to the constant progress in technology. Adaptability, embracement of innovation and technology is the compass guiding firms to excel in this modern era.” Tong says.

AXA Study: Younger women in Hong Kong have poorer mind health

AXA Study: Younger women in Hong Kong have poorer mind health

64% aged 40 and below are experiencing moderate to extreme stress over last year

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 10 October 2023 – AXA Hong Kong and Macau (“AXA”) today released the third phase of its annual AXA Study of Mind Health and Wellbeing 2023 (“the Study”), which assessed the state of mind health[1] across the globe. According to the Study, only 19% of female respondents in Hong Kong are flourishing, lower than the 23% of men surveyed.

Notably, younger female respondents aged 40 and below have an even lower percentage, as 12% believe they are flourishing compared to 24% of those aged above 40. These findings suggest that mental stress is more prevalent among younger women, with 64% of younger respondents experiencing moderate to extreme stress over the last year, compared to 46% of overall female respondents.

Nearly two-thirds of women agreed all genders are treated equally at workplace but gender equality gap still exists in the workplace

The Study sheds light on the mind health and all-round wellbeing of women in Hong Kong, uncovering important insights into the challenges they face both professionally and personally. According to the Study, nearly two-thirds (61%) of female respondents in Hong Kong agreed that all genders are treated equally in their workplace.

Despite that, the Study revealed a gap in gender equality in the workplace, nearly half of female respondents in Hong Kong reported that their abilities have been doubted or undervalued because of their gender, while 25% said they have experienced unwanted gender-related comments.

Female executives suffer from significant financial stress despite higher income

Concerns about financial security and wellbeing are also highlighted in the Study. 36% of female respondents in Hong Kong reported that their current financial situation causes them significant stress. Despite higher income levels, 42% of female senior executives conveyed significant stress caused by their financial situation, the highest percentage among all the surveyed occupations. This could be attributed to the added pressure that comes with maintaining higher living standards and coping with societal expectations of success.

Zooming in on their financial future, only one-third (32%) of female respondents in Hong Kong said they feel secure, significantly lower than the 42% male respondents.

Juggling responsibilities limits regular physical activity

When asked about their one “big wish”, 34% expressed their desire for improving physical health which is a key contributor to mental wellbeing.

However, only 24% of women said they regularly get more than 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise each week, compared to 32% of male respondents. While underlining the city’s need to promote an active lifestyle, the findings also suggest that time constraints due to multiple roles and responsibilities, including work and caregiving, may limit opportunities for women to engage in regular physical activity.

Andrea Wong, Chief Marketing and Customer Officer, AXA Hong Kong and Macau, remarked, “Women tend to face a unique set of challenges having to balance multiple roles and responsibilities stemming from the workplace and at home. At AXA, we believe that being a woman shouldn’t be a risk and are determined to support them with innovative products and services that better protect women’s health and wellness. We also believe that it is essential to create avenues for women to prioritise their physical health to achieve better mind health. We do so through organising our annual signature events such as AXA Better Me Weekend and Green Power Hike to create a brighter and healthier future not only for just women but the general public as a whole.”

AXA remains steadfast in offering comprehensive wellness solutions that help women in Hong Kong thrive and succeed. From physical health, personal finance, to career development, AXA will continue to provide resources and support that address the specific challenges women face in every aspect of their lives, with the goal of fostering better mind health and overall wellbeing for women in Hong Kong.
