Thailand and Philippines Explore Defense Industry Partnership

Thailand and the Philippines are exploring a defense partnership amid South China Sea tensions, strengthening military cooperation and committing to peace in Myanmar and regional stability through diplomacy and dialogue.

Thailand and the Philippines are set to explore a defense industry partnership in response to Chinese assertiveness in the South China Sea. This collaboration reflects a growing concern about regional security and the need for enhanced military capabilities.

Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo visited Thailand to discuss this partnership with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa. They signed a memorandum of understanding focusing on Logistics and Defense Industry Cooperation, highlighting both countries’ commitment to strengthening their defense sectors.

Manalo emphasized the need for the Philippines to bolster its military amidst rising tensions. The ministers also agreed to enhance coordination within ASEAN to promote peace in Myanmar, addressing critical issues discussed at recent summits. The Philippines is scheduled to host the ASEAN Meetings in 2026.
