Starting Dec. 1, facial recognition services will enhance international travel efficiency at six Thai airports, reducing processing times and ensuring data privacy, with registration available at check-in or kiosks.
Facial recognition services will be available for international passengers at six major Thai airports starting December 1. These airports include Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Hat Yai, as announced by Airports of Thailand (AOT). The system has been operational for domestic flights since November 1.
The biometric system aims to enhance efficiency by reducing checkpoint processing times from three minutes to just one. Travelers can easily register at check-in counters or self-service kiosks, allowing them to check bags without needing to present boarding passes or passports.
AOT emphasizes data privacy, ensuring biometric information will be deleted 48 hours post-registration, as per Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act. This innovation highlights the country’s dedication to modernizing airport services and improving the overall travel experience.
