BANGKOK, 13 July 2019 (NNT) – The iRAP Sechzig rescue robot from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, has secured a strong second placing at the World RoboCup Rescue 2019 competition in Australia.
Students and teachers from the Faculty of Engineering, College of Industrial Technology, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, who participated in the World RoboCup 2019 competition on
2-8 July in Sydney, Australia, have already returned to Thailand with their second winning prize, awarded for their iRAP Sechzig rescue robot. The team received a warm welcome back from university executives and fellow students.
18 teams from eight countries competed in this year World RoboCup Rescue, putting their robots through six stages of the competition. A team from Japan received a 216% score from the maximum 300%, giving them the grand prize, while the iRAP Sechzig robot achieved a 204% score, giving them the first runner-up prize, with a team from Germany receiving a 173% score, giving them the second runner-up prize.
One of the participating students, Netinan Kutanan, said today that competing teams had implemented AI technologies to help with the functions of rescue robots and their stability, which allowed them to gain higher scores than the Thai team, who will have to implement AI technology in next year’s competition to boost the robot’s performance.
The World RoboCup Rescue competition has been held 11 times so far, with King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok winning grand prizes from eight competitions, and second prizes in three competitions.
