MDES proceeds to enforce law to deal with online offenses

BANGKOK, 15 July 2019 (NNT) – Regarding the dissemination of inappropriate content online, especially via social media, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) is developing measures to deal with illegal content.

Group Captain Somsak Khaosuwan, MDES Deputy Permanent Secretary, said people’s complaints indicate the most common inappropriate content on social media consists of violent behavior and crime, self-harm, sexual exploitation, privacy violation, hate speech, defamation, fraud, information distortion and intellectual property infringement. The crimes have become more complicated at the provincial, district, sub-district and village levels.

The MDES has promoted the creative and appropriate use of social media through projects such as cyber scouts, the Pracharat volunteer Internet network and the community digital center. The MDES has also issued a measure to deal with inappropriate content and is prepared to enforce the law on computer-related offenses to monitor content that is illegal or violates the moral standards, in line with government policy.
