สมาคมขนส่งทางบกแห่งประเทศไทย (LTAT) is preparing to have a meeting with the Prime Minister regarding transportation fees after diesel prices increased by 1 baht/liter. Suphak Sakdinak, a consultant of LTAT, stated that the association is eager to know how much and how frequently diesel prices will increase this year to allow truck operators to plan and deal with the price hikes. They expect an answer from the Prime Minister within a week without having to convene a further meeting. The rise of 1 baht/liter increases the transportation costs of truck operators by approximately 3%, exceeding the general rule that fuel costs should not exceed 40% of the total operation costs to sustain business operations. Currently, with fuel costs accounting for 55% and labor costs also increasing, transportation operators are under pressure to maintain profitability. Suphak Sakdinak mentioned that there are approximately one million trucks in Thailand, with around 70% of them experiencing a decrease in operation by 60% due to the recent diesel price hike, making many vehicles unable to operate unless transportation fees are adjusted accordingly.
