The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is organising the organising the Phimai Festival 2017 from 8 to 12 November at Phimai Historical Park, Chakkarat River in Phimai District and around Nakhon Ratchasima province.

The annual Festival celebrates the grandeur of Phimai during the reign of Cambodian King Jayavarman VII, who ordered the construction of Thailand’s most significant Khmer temples including Prasat Hin Phimai, during his reign over 1,000 years ago.

Phimai Festival 2017 celebrates the glory of Phimai Historical ParkHighlight of the five-day Phimai Festival 2017 includes a special exhibition to honour and pay tribute to Thailand’s late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. A daily light-and-sound presentation is scheduled from 19:00, while the lively annual Phimai Boat Race on the Chakkarat River (11 to 12 November) features participating teams coming from around the country to compete.

Other activities include an exhibition on Phimai history with replica period market selling local products plus a traditional arts and crafts fair. Cultural performances include a ‘Korat Cat Competition’ with awards for the most perfect feline also known as the much prized ‘Siamese Cat’.

There are also cooking demonstrations of popular dishes such as famous Pad Mee Korat (stir fried noodles) and Som Tam. Visitors are invited to join in the fun and take part in local cooking classes as well as many other interactive and do-it-yourself workshops.

The Phimai Festival brings together the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Authority and Department of Fine Arts, in cooperation with the TAT, to promote unique Thai local experiences in Phimai for the enjoyment of both domestic and international travellers.
