Bangkok, 12 June 2023 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Khon Kaen Jockey Club (KKJC) have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to promote Thailand, specifically the Northeast (Isan) region, as a destination for eco-tourism in the areas of sports, medical, wellness, and cultural tourism.
The LOI was signed by Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Deputy Governor for the Domestic Market, and Mr. Vaipot Petpoon, KKJC President and Chairman. The event was attended by Mr. Peter O’Neill, KKJC CEO, and other dignitaries.
The recently opened KKJC aims to boost tourism in Isan through sports, therapeutic wellness, arts and culture, hospitality, and entertainment. Located in Khon Kaen province, the KKJC offers a unique interdisciplinary experience for both local and international visitors. They can not only observe but also participate in various sports such as Muay Thai, MMA, soccer, badminton, tennis, basketball, volleyball, golf, swimming, paddle boarding, wakeboarding, fishing, and boating.
As a center of equine excellence, KKJC allows visitors to ride horses and learn how to care for them. With one of the largest horse stables in Thailand, the center offers polo, riding, and equine therapy. Interacting with the horses can improve mental health and promote emotional and physical well-being.
There are also plans to collaborate with Khon Kaen University to establish an Equine Veterinary Care Facility for horse research, study, and treatment.
