Bangkok, 28 August 2023 – The SUPPORT Foundation under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother is organizing the highly anticipated Khon Performance Episode of ‘Kumbhakarna’ at Thailand Cultural Centre in Bangkok, from 5 November to 5 December 2023.

‘Khon’, the traditional masked dance drama of Thailand, was officially recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018. According to UNESCO, Khon is a comprehensive art form that combines music, vocals, literature, dance, rituals, and craftsmanship.

For nearly two decades, the SUPPORT Foundation under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother has been presenting the eagerly awaited SUPPORT Khon Performance, also known as Khon Somdej or The Queen’s Khon.

Regarded as the most prestigious Khon production in Thailand, the SUPPORT Khon Performance showcases the country’s most significant performing arts while incorporating modern stage techniques and special effects.

The SUPPORT Khon Performance is based on the theatrical script for Ramakien, the Thai adaptation of the Indian epic, Ramayana, compiled by King Rama I. This year’s episode highlights the part where Kumbhakarna, the younger brother of demon king Thotsakan, performs a magical ritual to halt Phra Ram’s army.
