Thailand has seen 19 million foreign tourists from January to September 17, generating 795 billion baht ($22.26 billion) in revenue. The government plans to waive visas for arrivals from China and Kazakhstan from September 25 to the end of February in order to boost the tourism sector. The aim is to attract more Chinese tourists, with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin planning to visit China and India to promote tourism. China has been a significant source of tourists for Thailand in the past, accounting for 27.6% of all arrivals in 2019. The government hopes that the temporary visa exemption for Chinese tourists will help revive the struggling tourism industry.
