Government agencies are actively supporting small businesses in their efforts to become more environmentally friendly.

Government agencies are supporting small businesses in becoming environmentally friendly, particularly in the tourism sector. A new fund, the Tha Climate Initiative, has been established with backing from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. This fund, launched through collaboration with Thailand’s Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the National Innovation Agency (NIA), and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion, will provide 40 million baht to small and medium-sized businesses in tourism, hotels, and hospitality. Businesses can apply for funding by submitting proposals to the NIA, which offers technological solutions such as waste management and energy optimization. Selected proposals will receive grants covering 50% of the investment, up to 2.5 million baht per business.

New Fund Launched to Assist SMEs in Climate Transformation

A newly established fund aims to bolster small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their journey towards climate transformation. This initiative recognizes the vital role SMEs play in local economies and the broader ecosystem, as they account for a significant portion of global employment and innovation. With climate change posing both risks and opportunities, this fund seeks to equip these businesses with the financial resources necessary to adopt sustainable practices and green technologies.

The fund will provide grants, low-interest loans, and technical assistance to SMEs committed to reducing their carbon footprint. This includes investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and sustainable supply chains. By empowering SMEs with these tools, the initiative aims not only to enhance their competitiveness but also to contribute to national and global climate goals. The fund’s flexible structure acknowledges the diverse needs of SMEs, ensuring that support is tailored to specific industries and local contexts.

Moreover, this initiative emphasizes collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders. By partnering with industry experts, government agencies, and environmental organizations, the fund aims to create a supportive ecosystem for SMEs navigating the transition to a greener economy. As businesses compete increasingly over sustainability, this fund positions SMEs to thrive while contributing positively to the planet, fostering a resilient and environmentally friendly future.
