Govt keen on turning Thailand into ASEAN’s halal hub

The Thai government aims to establish Thailand as a regional hub for Halal products by forming a national Halal industry committee. This initiative follows the country’s favorable ranking in the Global Muslim Travel Index 2024. With a global Halal market valued at $2.3 trillion, Thailand plans to enhance its market share through new support centers, awareness campaigns, and increased exports to nearby countries.

Government Aims to Establish Thailand as ASEAN’s Halal Hub

The Thai government is making strategic moves to position the country as ASEAN’s halal hub, recognizing the growing global demand for halal products. With a significant Muslim population and a strong presence in food processing, Thailand aims to enhance its capabilities in halal certification and product innovation. By fostering collaboration between various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sectors, and educational institutions, Thailand is laying the groundwork for a robust halal ecosystem.

Investment in research and development is also a priority. The government plans to allocate resources to improve the quality and safety of halal products, ensuring they meet international standards. This commitment aims to bolster Thailand’s competitive edge in the halal market, attracting both local and foreign businesses to invest in halal developments.

Furthermore, Thailand’s strategic location in Southeast Asia positions it as a logistical hub for halal exports to neighboring countries. By promoting trade partnerships and participating in ASEAN initiatives, the Thai government seeks to facilitate easier access for halal goods within the region. This initiative not only promises economic growth but also strengthens Thailand’s standing in the global halal market.
